Jewelry myths and why they aren’t true!

Many of us wants to own a piece of jewelry; it can either be a bracelet, necklace or a pair of earrings.   We collect jewelry not only to be used as an accessory but also as form of our investment. In most cultures, jewelry is used to define social status and demonstrate wealth.  There have been many myths about jewelry over the years, but what is the truth behind these myths? Here are some known jewelry myths that you need to know they aren’t true at all.

Biting Gold to check if it’s real.

Gold is naturally a soft metal and when bitten, you should be able to see your bite marks. However, there are other metals like lead and silver that can be just as soft as gold, if you bite them you can also see your bite marks. Therefore, biting gold isn’t the solution; it’s better to get your gold verified by a jeweler or you can check Atasay Gold Collection for authentic Gold jewelries.

Gold comes in different colors.

We have seen different colors of gold like yellow, white, rose, pink and some other colors, and because of this we believe that Gold comes in different colors which is not true. Pure gold is found in one color, yellow. Colored gold is actually a mixed metal compound called an “alloy”, made by mixing pure gold with iron, silver, platinum, copper or aluminum creating the various colors often used in jewelry.

Diamonds are indestructible.

This is the most common myth of all time; most people believe that diamonds are indestructible. In fact on the Moh’s Scale of Hardness, diamonds are measured at 10 which is the highest category on the scale. But this doesn’t mean that they are indestructible or can’t be damaged. Diamonds can be scratched by other diamonds; they can also be cracked after hitting into hard objects.

Remember that these myths aren’t true at all; it’s important to do your own research before buying any jewelry. Be wise and make sure you are buying from a reputable jewelry shop like Atasay Jewelry.
